What is Captain’s Log?

Captain’s Log is an hommage to the things that excite me and I want to share with the world. These things include, but are not limited to, pen and paper games, video games, books, and anime, usually under the themes of fantasy and science fiction.

Who are you?

I am Aventinus! Forgive me for not sharing my real name. I choose to do this for two reasons: 1) I don’t want the professional and non-professional parts of my life getting mixed, and 2) “Aventinus” is the username I’ve been using for almost a decade now for the things that I love spending time on. It feels right to use this username here as well.

What will you be posting on this website?

Short answer: The things that excite me.
Long answer: I want Captain’s Log to be an hommage to fantasy and science fiction to all its forms. Expect to find here (among other things) stories and lore about the pen and paper campaigns I’m running, unconventional video games reviews, and my thoughts on books and anime shows.

What do you mean by ‘unconventional’ video game reviews?

I’ve been playing video games all my life. Unfortunately, adulting and gaming don’t mix well, which means that I don’t have the time to spare on every video game out there. More importantly, I don’t have the time for unfinished, broken, or glitchy video games. This is why I am an avid patient gamer. I have decided that I will play a video game at least one year after its release date, and ideally, after its development is officially over. I also want to experience everything a video game has to offer, which means all DLCs. Finally, I like to heavily mod my games. So, by ‘unconventional’ video game reviews I mean that I will review a modded version of a video game long after its release date, with all DLC included. To the best of my knowledge, there are no other websites doing this. If you know any, please let me know!

Where can we find you?

You can add me on Goodreads to discuss about our favorite books, and on Letterboxd to discuss about our favorite movies. Definitely add me on Steam, who knows, we may end up playing a co-op game. You can also add me on MyAnimeList if you’re an anime nerd. If you like Chess, feel free to challenge me. Finally, you can follow my lame Twitter account!

What should we expect to find here?
